Modem - A hardware device to convert into digital and analog forms in an effective way

A Modem is a device that is used to convert the signal into digital and analog forms. Modem is a short form of Modulator - Demodulator. It is a hardware device that modulates the digital signal from a computer or any digital device to analog signal for a conventional copper twisted pair telephone line and demodulates the analog signals to convert it to digital signal for digital device.

In today's high speed digital modems popular today, the signals are much faster and doesn't require analog to digital conversions.

In the past, the speed was measured in the form of baud and as the technology becomes advanced it was converted to bits per second. In late 1990's dial up modems comes with the primary form of internet access.

Dial up Modems plugs into a computer at one end and a telephone line at the other end. Modern Dial up network modems transmits data at a maximum rate of 56kbps however due to some limitations it comes upto 33.6 kbps.

Broadband Modems uses advanced signalling techniques to get higher network speed as compared to dial up modems. Broadband Modems are high speed modems.

Cellular Modems are a type of digital modems that provides internet connectivity between Mobile device and a cell phone network.
